Iowa slugs way past Jennings, 38-22

MOSS BLUFF – The Jennings Bulldogs kicked off their 2024 regular season on the road Thursday night in a torrential rainstorm against the Iowa Yellow Jackets at Sam Houston High School. The Dogs suffered through a multitude of penalties and turnovers, while the Jackets rolled up a host of big plays to take a 38-22, week one win.

Roy leads Tigers in 2024

With the 2024 season having now begun, the LSU Football team is in full “go mode” on its quest to bring another national championship back to Baton Rouge. While Tiger fans are familiar with stars like Garrett Nussmeier, Kyren Lacy and Greg Penn III, it’s easy to forget about the players on special teams who make routine plays look easy game in and game out. The general rule of thumb is, if you know a player’s name on special teams, it’s not for a good reason.

Tigers stave off Hornets 21-14 in jamboree action

SULPHUR — The Lake Arthur Tigers closed out their preseason slate Friday night by competing at the Sulphur Jamboree at Matt Walker Stadium against former district mate Grand Lake. The Tigers used a strong outing and fended off a late Hornet drive to claim a 21-14 win in the abbreviated game. The two teams played a pair of 15-minute quarters in the contest, with the Tigers finding the endzone three times. The Lake Arthur defense came up with a huge stop at the end of the contest as Grand Lake had the football in the red zone but the Tigers came with a stop on downs with just 10 seconds left to play.

Greyhounds charge through jamboree

SULPHUR — The Welsh Greyhounds wasted no time in taking charge in their battle with the St. Louis Saints here Friday night in the finale of the Sulphur Jamboree. The Hounds scored the first two times they had the pigskin and then added two more scores on their way to a 26-0 whitewashing of the Saints. Welsh was extremely effective on both sides of the ball, as they totaled 332 yards of offense and 15 first downs, while limiting the Saints to just 46 yards of offense and two first downs.

Dogs set for battle with 4A Iowa in opener

Coming off of a good preseason campaign in which the Jennings Bulldogs battled the 5A Barbe Bucs and the Sam Houston Broncos, the Dogs are now set to turn their attention to the season-opener against the Iowa Yellow Jackets. The two teams have squared off a total of 29 times in the history of the schools, with Jennings holding an 18-11 edge over the Jackets. Iowa has won the last three contests including a nail-biter last season in Jerry Simmons Stadium. The Jackets lost quite a few players from last year’s squad but according to Jennings Head Coach Bret Fuselier, the Jackets are just as strong this season.

5A Broncos slip past Bulldogs, 36-27

MOSS BLUFF — The Jennings Bulldogs capped off their 2024 preseason schedule Thursday night when they traveled to Sam Houston High School to take on the 5A Broncos. The hosts used a dominant start and built a 28-7 lead at half but fought off a feisty Bulldog rally in the second period to hang on for a 36-27 win.
