STRAND TO OPEN AT 3 P.M. FOR MATINEE SHOWS

1940- To accomodate patrons, especially housewives. the Strand Theatre, announced today that week- day shows would start promptly at 3 o’clock daily. “ The doors will open at 2: 45 p. m.” Billy Richardson, manager, stated. This will allow patrons time to see the afternoon performance and shop for their evening meal before the stores close in the afternoon.

1926 - Welsh, La., April 6 - Forty car loads of cattle a solid train was shipped from Welsh, by A. R McBurney and consigned to Leforce Brothers at Lenopah, Okla.

LILY SHIPMENTS FROM JENNINGS FIELDS

1926 - Jennings, La. Lilies began to move today to almost every state in the union. Through the efforts of the marketing department of the chamber of commerce, buyers in the North, South, East and West have been attracted to the lily fields of Jennings. One shipment was made to Montreal, Canada; others went to Washington, Wisconsin, Michigan, Mississippi, Tennessee, Virginia and other states. However, the bulk of the shipments are being made to various parts of Texas. It is indeed a very beloved package to get of Jennings beautiful lilies.

1926 - Last Friday marked a new era in water transportation from Jennings and the Jennings oil field, when the new tug “Gertrude,: owned by G. B. Zigler Company of Jennings, steamed out from its loading docks at the Jaenke Bridge with 5,000 barrels of oil in tow for delivery to A. Kaplan at Abbeville. The “Gertrude” has 125H.P. engines.

1926 - “ Victory,” the Easter Cantata being sung by the Philharmonic Society at the W. C. T. U. Auditorium this Sunday nite, is said to be the most ambitious program the organization has ever attempted. Music lovers may look forward to the event with pleasant anticipation. The program follows, which will begin at 8 o’clock. All churches of the city are giving over their services and will attend the sacred concert.
